In 1958 my dad, Garry Spencer, and his friend Maurice spent the summer hitch-hiking around Europe - this is his diary!

Thursday 18th September
We walked to Komotini and met a couple of other hitch-hikers – a fellow
from Bournemouth and a girl from Australia.
After a short lorry ride with them, we parted company. We were then, strangely enough, given a free
ride in a bus to Alexandroupolis. We
camped in the evening half way between Alexandroupolis and Didymoteicho,
together with ten thousand mosquitos!
